《〈申报〉〈新申报〉小说家述考（1907-1919）》一书由罗紫鹏的博士后报告修改而成。全书通过搜罗近代报刊史料，挖掘民初文人信息，对嘉定二我、徐了青、许瘦蝶等二十余位小说家的生平经历与文学成绩进行了梳理，探讨了《申报》《新申报》小说编创平台的搭建、小说家创作队伍的形成，进而考察了清末民初普通知识分子保存旧小说、拥抱新媒体的历史命运。
