现代中国古典主义诗派主要指对传统有着较深认同、与新文学自由诗派形成批评关系的诗歌流派，主要包括甲寅派、国粹派里、南社成员、学衡派、新文学阵营中的新格律派等。这些古典主义诗派虽也主张对古代诗体进行改造，但是改革思路与新文学派大异其趣，本书系统考察了近现代中国具有古典倾向诗论家的“新诗”观念，并对其背后的语言结构、时间意识、发展理念、价值取向等进行了深入开掘。这种研究对于古典派与自由派的对话、对中国新诗理论建设的再出发等具有重要意义。
