本书共分9章，前三章简略介绍中国古代各个朝代对宗教进行法律规制的法律整体状况。作者将中国古代分为三个时期：佛教传入以前（汉代以前）、佛教传入并兴盛时期（两汉魏晋南北朝时期）、法律规制法典化时期（隋唐以后），比较全面地介绍了中国古代对宗教进行法律规制的整体情况，包括对合法宗教的规制、民间宗教的规制和近代对基督教的规制等三个方面的内容。后六章为本书的主体部分，分别论述了中国古代对宗教进行法律规制的各个方面，包括行政法律、民事法律、刑事法律等方面的法律规制情况。其中还精选了数十件涉及宗教的案例，并对其进行法律学意义上的分析。

The book is divided into nine chapters, the first three of which briefly describe the overall legal situation of the legal regulation of religion in various ancient Chinese dynasties. The author divides ancient China into three periods: before the introduction of Buddhism (before the Han Dynasty), the period of Buddhism introduced and flourished (the period of the two Han dynasties, Wei, Jin, Southern and Northern Dynasties), and the period of codification of legal regulation (after the Sui and Tang dynasties), and comprehensively introduces the overall situation of legal regulation of religion in ancient China, including the regulation of legal religion, the regulation of folk religion and the regulation of Christianity in modern times. The last six chapters are the main part of the book, which respectively discuss various aspects of the legal regulation of religion in ancient China, including administrative law, civil law, criminal law, and other aspects.
