本书关注的焦点是明显没有加以制度化的、而是仅仅在行为层面上得到习俗化的宗族外部的姻亲关系，并对姻亲关系的运行机制本身及其作用和意义给予充分的重视与估计，以加强对中国农村亲属制度的认识，进而增加对乡土社会结构的理解。围绕通婚圈、相关仪式活动、婚姻偿付机制、礼物交流、交往秩序、嫁女位置等多个方面，清晰、全面地展示了姻亲关系的复杂特征，深入论述了姻亲关系如何作为重要的建构力量构织乡村社会关系之网，进而揭示了乡土社会结构的多面性。

宗族文化一般在血缘、制度层面发挥支配作用，而在更为具体的生活实践中，更多地扮演显要角色的恰恰是姻缘亲属，因此“双系并重”是华北乡村社会日常生活中实际的亲属交往样态。姻亲关系在生活层面的实际操演，对个体、家庭、家族的经济、政治方面具有十分重要的意义。

This book focuses on the affinity relations outside the clan that are obviously not institutionalized, but are only customized at the behavioral level, and fully pay attention to and estimate the operating mechanism of the kinship relationship itself, its role and significance, so as to strengthen the understanding of the kinship system in rural China, and thus increase the understanding of the rural social structure. Focusing on the intermarriage circle, related ceremonial activities, marriage payment mechanism, gift exchange, communication order, marriage position and other aspects, the complex characteristics of in-law relationship are clearly and comprehensively displayed, and how in-law relationship is used as an important construction force to construct the network of rural social relations, and then reveals the multifaceted nature of rural social structure. Clan culture generally plays a dominant role in blood and system levels, while in more specific life practices, it is marriage relatives who play more prominent roles, so "dual lineage" is the actual kinship interaction in the daily life of rural society in North China.
